Are you a family who has a child with disability/special needs, are well overdue and would dearly love a family holiday? Or perhaps a school or community group? There’s always barriers, right? Too costly, not inclusive, not available when you need it, too far away….
Recently Nathan – one of Interaction’s participants – had the pleasure of staying at a wonderful accommodation venue on the South Coast. Nathan enjoyed fishing and tennis amongst other things. He had such a great time that we wanted to help spread the word about these great inclusive venues, letting people know that there are options available, and provide families and community groups with an opportunity to take that well-earned break.
Ever heard of the Apex Foundation? The Apex Foundation is a not for profit charity and custodian of a wide range of Trusts – primarily in the fields of medical research, respite care accommodation for the under privileged, and funding of projects for the disadvantaged. You can read more general info about the Apex Foundation here – http://www.apexfoundation.org.au/. Specifically, we want to tell you about about two wonderful holiday accommodation facilities the Apex Foundation provides, which you and your family can take advantage of, without worrying about the barriers.
First up – ‘The Shack’, located in the beautiful Shoalhaven region, The Shack is a group of 6 x 2 bedroom units, and has everything you need to enjoy a relaxed and pleasant stay. It’s just a stone’s throw away from activities such as: beach (great fishing!), local shops, lawn bowls, tennis, restaurants etc. More about The Shack, including costs, location, photos, activities etc. here – http://theshack.apexfoundation.org.au/accommodation/
A great holiday doesn’t always have to be a Summer holiday! Perhaps you and the family would like a fun filled adventure in the snow? Think hot chocolate, toasted marshmallows, making snow angels and building snowmen. Sitting in a beautiful big lounge room next to the warm fire, overlooking the snow-capped trees outside, while the kids enjoy table tennis, billiards and other games. Do we have your attention?
Given the colder months are now upon us, it’s timely that we advise you of the Apex Foundation’s other accommodation venue – ‘The Apex Chalet’ (also known as the Magic Castle). The Chalet was built entirely by Apexian volunteers in the International Year of the Child. Walk out the front door of The Chalet and you’re literally right in the snow fields. Located in Smiggin Holes (within Kosciuszko National Park), this beautiful and welcoming venue has been providing 39 years of absolute fun and excitement. Find out more about The Apex Chalet – http://www.apexchalet.com.au/
We encourage you to check out the websites which provide comprehensive information on both venues, including: the facilities, history, cost and availability. Thank you to the Apex Foundation for accommodating Nathan at The Shack, he thoroughly enjoyed his time there.
