Since 1992 INTERACTION has taken a lead role in supporting people with Prader-Willi Syndrome. INTERACTION, with the support and guidance of the Prader-Willi Syndrome Association of NSW, started the Specialist Community Program, the first accommodation program in Australia that is designed to meet the specific needs associated with this unique and rare syndrome.
The Specialist Community Program employs research based techniques and practices in an effort to maximise autonomy and choice within a structured environment and designed to encourage a healthy and active lifestyle. The program works closely with the service users’ families to ensure a consistent and supportive approach that deals effectively with a complex mix of behavioural, health and social needs that are characteristic of Prader-Willi Syndrome.
In addition, INTERACTION takes a lead role in advocating for the needs of people with Prader-Willi Syndrome. INTERACTION offers training and advice for families or organizations who are dealing with the issues that impact the lives of those with Prader-Willi Syndrome. We also hold information sessions for those who are interested in learning more about the syndrome and some of the techniques that can help enhance the lives of those with Prader-Willi Syndrome.
Finally, INTERACTION offers a wide range of respite, community participation and supported living programs that can be specifically tailored to meet the needs of children and adults with Prader-Willi Syndrome.
INTERACTION contributes to FAMCARE, a project designed by the International Prader-Willi Syndrome Organization to support parents whose adult son or daughter lives in the family home.
